Reminder:  All applications are to be completed in full and returned by the due date-NO exceptions!!

SUMMARY OF REQUIREMENTS FOR SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS:

 

  • The recipient must enroll in college and use the scholarship during the first two complete semesters following graduation
  • Each scholarship has it’s own criteria, be sure to comply with all
  • The common application can be used for most of the scholarships-be sure to list scholarship name on each common application in the space provided. 
  • Be honest and sincere during any interview and filling out the applications
  • Be sure to send a thank-you note in the event of receiving a scholarship
  • Provide envelopes for the people writing recommendations and attach to your application
  • Place all correspondence in a large manila folder and return it to the counselors office
  • Keep application neat and clean
  • Be sure to complete each application CORRECTLY and obtain the correct number of recommendations as required
  • Scholarships are also listed on the counselors website

 

 

 

 

MARGARET HALLAUER SCHOLARSHIP  

 

 To qualify for this scholarship a student must:

  • be a senior
  • have a scholastic average of a B-(2.0) or better
  • have good character
  • desire to continue education and desire to achieve
  • submit 3 references: 1 from a teacher

                                                                 2 from outside the teaching profession and the students family

 

In considering the applicant the committee will:

  • review application (Scholarship committee request parent’s name on the application)   
  • review academic record (They will evaluate the courses completed as they apply to areas of interest  to be pursued as well as determining how well prepared the applicant is for college or vocational school.)
  • interview the finalists
  • announce the winner at graduation ceremonies                            

 

Award will be deposited with BISD Administration with payment disbursed directly to College or University upon proof of enrollment.

 

Scholarship award: $1,500

 

 

 

 

MAUDE ALLISON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP 

 

 This scholarship requires a special application which is available in the counselors office.

                     

Award will be deposited with BISD Administration with payment disbursed directly to College or University upon proof of enrollment.

 

Scholarship award: $1,000

 

 

 

 

BILL SMALLEY, SENIOR MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

 

Open to any senior boy planning to go to college and has at least a B average.

Scholarship award will be deposited with BISD Administration office.

 

Scholarship award: $500

 

 

 

 

BHS CLASS OF 1950

 

This scholarship is offered for the 2008 graduating class and will consist of $500 a semester for two semesters for the total of $1,000.  The first $500 will be awarded at the beginning of the semester upon proof of enrollment in your chosen college or vocational school.  The outstanding $500 will be awarded in the same manner with the student having at least a 75 (2.5) average or above.  The recipient will be selected by a committee comprised of three individuals from another city.

 

Requirements:

  • must be a senior
  • well rounded student with a scholastic average of C or above
  • submit 2 references: 1 from a teacher and 1 from outside the teaching profession and the student’s family
  • must attend a vocational training school
  • A-B average in citizenship
  • Academic success (is desirable)
  • Ability to be accepted by peers, the faculty and your community.

 

All areas of your school life will be evaluated.

Special consideration will be given to those who attend a vocational training school (e.g. TSTC or beauty school),  a junior college or one of the branch facilities, however all applicants will be considered.

 

In evaluating the application, the committee will consider the following criteria:

  • financial need
  • grades
  • community/school involvement
  • applicant’s personal essay explaining why he/she is applying for this particular scholarship

In considering the application the committee will:

  • review the application
  • confirm scholastic average
  • review academic records

JOHN & KATE BAILEY SCHOLARSHIP

 

Applicant must be a senior with an acceptable scholastic average (not considered the most important factor).

 

Submit 2 references with your application:

  • one from a teacher
  • one from outside your family

 

A committee comprised of:

                                                         * a representative from a local business

                                                         * a representative from local banking and

                                                         * the president of the Ex-Students Association will select the

                                                           recipient.

 

An interview with the applicant may be necessary.

 

Award will be deposited with BISD Administration with payment disbursed directly to College or University upon proof of enrollment.

 

Scholarship award: one $1,000 award or two $500 awards

 

 

 

 

LAKES CHAPTER TEXAS TECH UNIVERSITY

 

Requirements for this scholarship:

  • you must be a senior at Breckenridge High School who has been accepted for admission at Texas Tech in Lubbock

 Considerations taken into account:

  • financial need
  • scholastic ability
  • high school attendance record

 

One scholarship to be awarded and deposited with BISD.

 

Scholarship award: $750

 

 

 

 

SCOTTY BROWN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

 

The scholarship will go to the African American student with the highest  GPA.

 

Scholarship award:  $600

JONELL EMPLOYEE SCHOLARSHIP

                                                

This Scholarship will be awarded to any of our employees children graduating in 2008 and enrolled in continuing educating schools.

 

Award will be deposited with BISD Administration with payment disbursed directly to College or University upon proof of enrollment.

 

Number of Scholarships: To be determined.

 

Scholarship award: $1,000

 

 

 

 

JONELL INC.

 

Applicant must have a GPA of 3.5 or higher and be accepted by an accredited university or college.  

 

Submit two references:

  • one from a teacher
  • one from an individual outside your family

 

Be sure to include in this application:

  • your choice of majors
  • your choice of schools
  • and list your interests

 

Scholarship award will be given directly to student.

 

Scholarship award: $2,000

 

 

 

 

SAM WALTON COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIP

 

Deadline is 1-14-08 (Early deadline 1/12/08)

Award will be deposited with BISD Administration.

Come to counselors office for a copy of the scholarship announcement.

 

Scholarship award: $1,000

Two awards will be given.

 

 

 

CLASS OF 1965 SCHOLARSHIP FUND

 

This scholarship requires a special application available in the counselors office.

To qualify for consideration, students must be related to a 1965 graduate from Breckenridge High School and the name of the student’s relative should be included with the application.

 

Award will be given directly to student with proof of enrollment.

 

Scholarship award: $250

 

 

 

 

KIMBERLY BROOKE PARDUE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

                                             Given by Howard Pardue

 

Requirements for this scholarship:

  • you must be a female graduate with a G.P.A. of 2.0 or above
  • must have maintained a high conduct performance throughout the 4 years at Breckenridge High School
  • must be a very well-rounded student and include participation in extra-curricular activities (sports, band, etc.) as well as clubs and exhibited a high amount of school spirit.
  • be especially adept at sports as a female athlete
  • be active in community affairs
  • must have made application for attendance at an accredited two or four-year college or university
  • submit 2 references to the selection committee!!!!

 

Interview may be required!

Requirements for this scholarship:

  • Must be an Ag student
  • Must have plans to major in an Ag related field
  • Should have good citizenship grade
  • Have an overall good GPA

Requirements:

  • Must be a senior with a G.P.A. of 3.25
  • Been involved in the community and school activities

  • one from outside the applicant’s family

 

The selection will be based on the:

  • need of the student
  • completeness of the application
  • letters of recommendation
  • involvement in community and school activities

LITTLE DIGGERS SCHOLARSHIP

 

Requires that you have played volleyball your senior year.

 

Scholarship award will be deposited with BISD Administration office with payment disbursed directly to college or university upon proof of enrollment.

 

Scholarship award: $500

 

 

 

A.T.P.E .  SCHOLARSHIP

 

Requirements for this application:

  • must have been a member of FTA for more than one year OR parent/s should be a current member of ATPE
  • no grade lower than a B in conduct
  • able to work well with others
  • desire to better yourself by continuing your education
  • letters of recommendation from a teacher and adults of your choice

 

Scholarship award: $350

 

 

 

 

AG MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

 

Special application available in counselors office

Requirements:

  • Must have shown in stock show at least 3 years
  • G.P.A. of 85 or above

 

Stock show scholarship will be voted on during executive session meeting of the Stock Show Board.  Winners will be announced at award ceremony.

 

 

 

 

DUSTY CUMMINGS MEMORIAL

                                                  

This scholarship requires a special application which is available in the counselors office.

 

Award will be deposited with BISD Administration with payment disbursed directly to College or University upon proof of enrollment.

 

Scholarship award:  $500

CLYDE HARRIS MEMORIAL TRACK & FIELD SCHOLARSHIP

 

No application

Scholarship will be presented at the Award Ceremony.

 

Requirements:

 

  • Be a senior track and/or field participant
  • Have high moral standards
  • A or B in citizenship
  • Scholastic average of 80 or above
  • Be the best or most deserving athlete as determined by all track and field coaches
  • Must enroll in college/university during first full semester following high school graduation
  • Show proof of enrollment                                                                      

Specifications:

  • Scholarship not to be given to a student earning a full scholarship
  • Need for financial assistance to be considered
  • Recipient is encouraged to participate in track/or field in college/university-though not a prerequisite for award

JACKIE COOPER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Special application required for this scholarship

 

This scholarship is for students who will participate in college athletics, either as a scholarship or walk-on player.

 

Requirements:

*   Essay of 500 words explaining why you wish to receive this scholarship

*   Sign agreement to compete in at least 1 full season of college athletics during freshman year,

     either as a player, manager or student trainer.      

Committee comprised of the athletic director, principal, the student body president( or another representative if the student body president is eligible), and a member of the business community will determine the need of the student to receive financial aid for college.

 

Payment disbursed on proof of enrollment, and a letter of confirmation is received from the head coach of the athlete’s sport.

 

Scholarship award:  $1,000.  

Two scholarships to be awarded

BRECKENRIDGE ELKS LOGDE #1480 SCHOLARSHIP

 

A committee comprised of Breckenridge Elks Lodge members will select the recipient.

 

Requirements:

  • must be a senior
  • must have a scholastic average of 80 or above
  • average of A-B in citizenship
  • complete application
  • choice of major (if known)
  • choice of school (if known)
  • list extracurricular interests
  • list any other information you think might be of interest to the selection committee

 

Committee will:

  • review application
  • confirm scholastic average
  • review academic record to determine how well prepared the applicant is for college or vocational school

 

Scholarship award will be sent directly to college upon proof of enrollment.

HIGGINBOTHAM-BARLETT SCHOLARSHIP

 

Application requirements:

  • must be a senior
  • well-rounded student with scholastic average of B or above
  • citizenship average of A-B
  • academically successful
  • ability to be accepted by peers, faculty and community
  • submit 2 references:  1 from a teacher

STEPHENS COUNTY FARM BUREAU

 

Requirements:

  • Parents or grandparents must be members of Farm Bureau.
  • Must be a senior with a G.P.A. of 85 (2.5) or above
  • Must have a SAT score of 800 or above
  • Must major in an Agricultural field at an accredited Texas college
  • Must submit 2 references with application

  • confirm scholastic and citizenship average with the school, and additional information pertinent to selection of applicant
  • consider all areas of the applicants home, school and social life

 

Award will be deposited at the beginning of the first semester to the Office of Registrar at the recipient’s chosen college or university.

WOMAN’S FORUM SCHOLARSIP

 

Reminder:  Must be a Jr. Forum Member!

Recipient will be selected by a committee comprised of 4 Women’s Forum members and 1 local citizen.

 

Committee will:

  • Evaluate all areas of your school life
  • The degree of difficulty of the courses while maintaining a high grade average
  • Review application
  • scholastic average
  • academic record-to determine how well prepared applicant is for college or vocational school

 

Requirements:

  • should be a well rounded senior
  • scholastic average 85(2.5) or above
  • A-B average in citizenship
  • Academically successful
  • Show ability of acceptance by peers, faculty and your community

One scholarship to be given to the amount of $500.

JIMMY McCULLOUGH MEMORIAL U.G.S.A. SCHOLARSHIP   

 

Requirements for this scholarship:

  • Applicant should have played in United Girls Softball Association sponsored league competition sometime during their school years.  (No minimum years required).
  • U.G.S.A. Scholarship committee will review all applicants and make selection.

 

Award will be deposited with BISD Administration with payment disbursed directly to College or University upon proof of enrollment.

 

Scholarship award: $250

JOHN WILLIAMS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Special Appilication required

 

Awarded yearly to selected high school seniors who plan to pursue their education with a major in Agriculture or related field and will be awarded to recipients form the local Trust funds of the Soil and Water Conservation District pursuant to Section 201.001 et. seq. Texas  Agricultural Code, D.

 

Requirements:

  • Must be a graduating senior
  • Have a G.P.A. that would allow you to be accepted to an accredited university
  • Exhibited a continued interest in agriculture throughout high school career
  • Exhibited a strong desire to choose a career in agricultural related field requiring college degree
  • Must be a resident of Stephens or Shackelford county(when applying for scholarship)
  • List agricultural interests and involvement
  • Financial status
  • Narrative of career goals

 

4H, FFA involvement will be considered

Priority will be given to students who have a financial need for assistance!

BRECKENRIDGE BASS CLUB SCHOLARSHIP

 

Committee comprised of Breckenridge Bass Club Members will select the recipient.

 

Requirements:

  • Must be a senior
  • Acceptable scholastic average
  • Submit 2 references: 1 must be form a teacher

Committee will:

MARYLYN ARNOT LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP

 

Qualification Requirements:

  • Must be a senior
  • G.P.A of 2.5(B) or above
  • B in citizenship(no lower)
  • Have been a STUCO member for at least 2 years (Junior and Senior years)
  • Current year- 30 points or more
  • Active in 2 or more activities other than STUCO
  • Submit 2 recommendations – 1 from a faculty member

                                                                                      1 from individual outside the school

Committee will:

  • Review application
  • Interview applicant

 

Scholarship award: $500

 

 

 

 

 

JOHNNY A. FUNDERBURG, SR. MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

 

No application- football coaches will make the selection!

Requirements:

  • Must be a senior football player
  • Offensive lineman
  • Most deserving not necessarily hardest working to be the best
  • High moral character
  • “B”  average at least (or be recommended by the coach)
  • Not to be given to a student with a full scholarship
  • Show proof of enrollment in college
  • Student must enter college during fist full semester following high school graduation
  • Financial assistance should be considered

 

Stipulation:

Mr. Mike Funderburg and/or Dr. Johnny Funderburg Jr. would like to present the scholarship at the Athletic Banquet.

 

 

Award deposited with BISD administration office with payment disbursed directly to college of university upon proof of enrollment.

MARY KATE TODD SCHOLARSHIP FUND

 

Requirements:

  • must be a senior
  • well-rounded student
  • academically successful
  • ability to be accepted by peer, the faculty and your community
  • submit 2 references

 

Scholarship award:  $1,000

 

 

 

 

ROTARY CLUB ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIP

 

Requirements: 

  • Must be a well-rounded senior
  • Some extent of academic success
  • Ability to be accepted by peers, the faculty and the community
  • Submit 2 references

 

The committee will:

  • review application
  • evaluate all areas of your school life
  • require parent’s name on the application
  • interview the applicant

 

Scholarship award:  $2,000

 

 

 

 

BRECKENRIDGE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

 

No application.

 

12 Students will be nominated for the Chamber of Commerce Student of the Year Award.

Six of these 12 students will be chosen by the Chamber of Commerce to apply for the scholarship.

One student will be awarded the scholarship.

 

  Check written to BISD after recipient is announced.

 

Scholarship award:  $750
