Sale of all animals

GENERAL SHOW RULES

  1. The FIFTIETH ANNUAL STEPHENS COUNTY JUNIOR LIVESTOCK SHOW AND SALE shall be open to all active 4-H Club Members who are nine (9) years old or are in the third grade on the day of initial validations, or who are active FFA Members in Stephens County and who are full time student in Stephens County and who have not graduated form high school. Any exhibitor in order to show or sell animals in the Stephens County Junior Livestock Show and Sale must be eligible under the established rules and laws of the State of Texas as directed by the University Interscholastic League. All exhibitors and their projects entered in the Fiftieth Annual Stephens County Junior Livestock Show and Sale shall be under the supervision and direction of either the Stephens County Extension Agent or the Breckenridge High School Future Farmers of America Advisors.
  2. At validation, animals may be entered by an individual or as a family unit with no more than 3 entries in a division market class and/or a division breeding class per family exhibitor.
  3. All entries exhibited must be the property of the exhibitor and must be carried as a project in 4-H or FFA. Proper records, as required by the Project Director, Must be completed and shall be maintained from date of acquiring of the entry. The completed record forms and all thank you notes must be turned in the exhibitor respective 4-H or FFA Advisor no later than, Friday, January 18, 2008. ANY CHECKS, PREMIUMS, PRIZE MONEY, RIBBONS OR TROPHIES RECEIVED BY AN EXHIBITOR WILL BE WITHDRAWN OR WITHHELD UNTIL SUCH TIME AS RECORD FORMS AND THANK YOU NOTES ARE COMPLETED AND TURNED IN TO THE 4-H OR FFA ADBISOR.
  4. Entry fees for the 2008 Stephens County Junior Livestock Show and Sale shall be as follows:

    $10.00 per entry on all Cattle, Swine, Sheep, Rabbit, Poultry and Goat entries.

    ALL ENTRY FEES ARE TO BE PAID AT THE TIME OF BALIDATION AS INDICATED BY COMPLETION OF OFFICIAL ENTRY FORMS IN CAMPLIANCE WITH SHOW AND SALE RULES.
  5. All Exhibitors and their Parent or Guardian must sign the agreement on the Entry Form stating that they will abide by all Rules of the Stephens County Junior Livestock Show and Sale.
  6. Any entry with contagious diseases or parasites will not be allowed to unload upon arrival at the Show and Sale grounds. In addition, all entries in the Breeding Classes must abide by the rules of the Texas Animal Health Commission.
  7.  Each 4-H or FFA Exhibitor must show their own entry during the judging, but may have another exhibitor assist them ONLY when exhibiting two (2) animals in the same class. If for any reason an exhibitor is unable to be present due to a family emergency or physical disability, the Executive Committee shall have full authority to decide if another exhibitor may show the entry.
  8. All exhibitors will be assigned an ‘exhibitor number’ and MUST wear their number at all times while on the show premises.
  9. All exhibitors are expected to remain alert to the show schedule and must be available to show their entries on thirty (30) minutes notice in case of changes in the show program schedule.
  10. The showing of any unethically fitted livestock is prohibited. Unethical fitting is deemed to mean any physical or physiological attempt to alter the natural conformation musculature or weight of an animal by use of injections or ingested material not conductive to the continued health of the animal or marketability of its carcass. Animals showing, in the opinion of the judge, and/or Show officials, signs of having been unethically fitted will be disqualified. No dyeing is allowed. No grooming material that allows color to come off from an animal will be allowed at the show. As a condition for participation in the show, every exhibitor must agree to submit any animal entered by exhibitor to inspection and testing by the show veterinarian. Test results and decisions shall be final, without recourse against the Stephens County Junior Livestock Show or any of its officers. Any exhibitor who violates this rule will forfeit all rights and privileges to entries in the Show and Sale at the time of the infraction and the exhibition of livestock in the future, at the Stephens County Junior Livestock Show and Sale.
  11. All entries which are not the quality finish or temperament to merit showing will be sifted by the Sifting Committee, which committee shall be composed of the following: The General Superintendent, The Division Superintendent, the FFA Advisors, and the County Extension Agent.
  12. In all Market Divisions in which there are five (5) or more entries, Grand and Reserve Champion Trophies will be awarded. In any Division with less than five (5) Entries, only Champion Trophies will be awarded. In any Division or Class with only two (2) entries, ribbons only will be awarded.
  13. In the event of a protest a $50 Cash Protest fee will be deposited with the Show Secretary. The protest fee is fully refundable if protest is in the favor of those making the protest. The protest shall be submitted in the following manner.
    1.  The protesting party shall submit their protest to the Stephens County Junior Livestock Show and Sale Committee in writing within thirty (30) minutes after the event in which the matter being protested has occurred.
    2.  Said protest shall be hand delivered by the person making the protest to the Stephens County Junior Livestock Show and Sale Office on the site of the Show.
    3.  It shall be presented to the General Show Secretary who will in turn present the protest to the Executive Committee which said Committee shall meet immediately to consider the protest.
    4.  The decision of the Executive Committee shall be final.
  14. THE DICISIONOF THE JUDGE IN SLL CLASSES SHALL BE FINAL
  15. THE MOVING OF ANY ANIMAL FROM ASSIGNED STALL, PEN, CAGE, ETC., WITHOUT APPROVAL OF THE DIVISION SUPERTENDENT, WILLCAUSE THE ANIMAL TO BE AUTOMATICALLY DISQUALIFIED FROM THE SHOW AND SALE.
  16. LIABILITY CLAUSES -  The Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce, The Breckenridge Independent School District, The Extension Service, or any other club Group, Organization or any individual involved in sponsoring or staging the 2008 Stephens County Junior Livestock Show and Sale SHALL NOT be responsible nor liable regardless of what may happen to exhibitors, judges, animals, spectators or vehicles during the preparation for, the actual staging of, or in the clean-up following the 2008 Stephens County Junior Livestock Show and Sale.
  17. Executive Committee’s interpretation of the Stephens County Junior Livestock Show and Sale Rules is final. The Executive committee consists of :

  1. All animals to be entered shall be kept in Stephens County, Texas, unless attending a show, from validation to show time with the only exception being when exhibitor attends school in Stephens County but lives in another county.
  2. Exhibitors with any animal losing ear tags must notify their Division Superintendent within 7 days in order to have the animal retagged. No ear tags shall be removed without contacting the Division Superintendent prior to removal.
  3. If an exhibitor’s animal dies within 10 days of validation; Exhibitor has 7 days from the date of death to replace the animal. Animal’s Death has to be certified by a veterinarian, the Division Superintendent or Project Supervisor.
  1. State validation tags will count for county tags.

 

CATTLE DIVISION RULES

In addition to the General Show and Sale Rules, all of which apply to the cattle Division, These specific rules also apply to the Cattle Division.

All Major (State) Steer (only Steers) entries must be validated on Tuesday, June 28, 2007 and will be classified, ear tagged, and nose print taken on the same date. All County Steer & Heifer entries will be validated on Oct. 13, 2007.

All Cattle shall be delivered to the Show site and weighted in on Thursday, January 10, 2008 in accordance with the show schedule.

Market Cattle Classes

  1. Market Steer classes will be divided first by class and then by weight. The classifications will consist of the following:

English                        American Cross                       Exotic

The classes will be determined after final weigh-in by the Superintendent and all classifications are final

  1. Market Steer entries must weigh a minimum of 750 pounds at the time of the Show and Sale Weigh-in.
  2. NO ENTRY MAY BE SHOWN IN MORE THAN ONE (1) MARKET CLASS.

 

Breeding Cattle Classes

  1. Classes in the Breeding Cattle Division will be determined by classifications (American Cross, Exotic, or English), and then by date of birth.

 

If an animal is registered the exhibitor needs to bring the animal and registration papers to validation to enter. If an animal is not registered, the exhibitor must bring the animal to validation for classification. Exhibitors must furnish birth date of the animal. All breeding cattle must be validated and have ear tags, tattoo or brand at validation.

  1. At the time of the Show, all entries in the Breeding Cattle Division must have no more than two (2) permanent teeth.
  2. BULLS WILL NOT BE EXHIBITED OR PERMITTED ON THE GROUNDS DURING THE SHOW.

 

SWINE DIVISION RULES

In addition to the General Show and Sale Rules, all of which apply to the Swine Division, these specific rules also apply to the Swine Division.

All swine must be validated on Saturday, November 17, 2007 and must have their ear tag placed on the same date.

All swine shall be delivered to the Show site and weighed-in on Thursday, January 10, 2008.

Market Swine Classes

  1. At the Show and Sale Weigh-In, a market hog must weigh at least 220 pounds and not more than 270 pounds, in order to show and sell. There will be no reweigh of animals.
  2. A market hog that weights less than 220 pounds and is state validated my be shown and can go through the sale but cannot go the floor.
  3. The Order of Show for Market Hogs will be OPB Black, OPB White, Cross, Duroc, Hampshire, York – The bottom four classes will rotate on a yearly basis.

 

  1. The swine classes will be broke as Light, Medium, Heavy and Extra Heavy if needed. The Swine Superintendent will determine the class break.

Breeding Swine Classes

  1. All entries in the Breeding Swine Classes must be no more than one (1) year of age.
  2. The Order of Show for breeding swine will be OPB Black, OPB White, Crosses, Duroc, Hampshire, York.
  3. BOARS WILL NOT BE EXHIBITED OR PERMITTED IN THE SHOW.

 

SHEEP DIVISION RULES
In addition to the General Show and Sale Rules, all of which apply to the Sheep Division, these specific rules also apply to the Sheep Division.

All sheep will be validated on Saturday, October 13, 2007. All Breeding Sheep or Market Ewe Lambs must be identified with an official scrapie tag at validation.

All Sheep shall be delivered to the Show site and weighed-in on Thursday, January 10, 2008 in accordance with the Show Schedule.

 

 

Market Sheep Classes

  1. Market Lambs must weight a minimum of 80 pounds to show or sell. There will be no reweigh of animals.
  2. All Market Lambs must be slick sheared prior to crossing scales at the final weight in.
  3. A qualified committee will be responsible for classifying fine wool, medium wool, fine wool cross and Southdown Market Lambs at the time of Validation on Saturday, October 13, 2007.

 

RABBIT DIVISION RULES

In addition to the General Show and Sale Rules, all of which apply to the Rabbit Division, these specific rules also apply to the Rabbit Division.

All Rabbit entries must be made on or before Saturday, October 2, 2007. Official entry forms must be submitted at this time.

All Rabbits shall be delivered to the Show Site and weighed-in on Thursday, January 10, 2008, in accordance with the Show Schedule.

Market Rabbit Classes

  1. All entries in the Market Rabbit Classes shall have a tattoo number placed in their left ear on the date of validation, which is Sunday, December 2, 2007. Entry fees must be paid at this time. No substitutions will be allowed after that date.
  2. Individual rabbits in the market classes must weigh between 3 ½ pounds and 5 ½ pounds on the day of the final show weigh-in. If one rabbit is eliminated from the final pen of three (3), then the whole pen is disqualified.
  3. An exhibitor may have as many as (5) rabbits per pen validated, and they must select the three (3) per pen to be shown before final weigh-in.

 

Breeding Rabbit Classes

  1. Exhibitors will compete for Champion Doe and Champion Buck and will then compete for Best of Show and Best of Opposite.

 

POULTRY DIVISION RULES

In addition to the General Show and Sale rules, all of which apply to the Poultry Division, these specific rules also apply to the Poultry Division.

All Market Poultry entries must be made on Saturday, October 13, 2007.

All Poultry shall be delivered to the Show Site and weighed-in on Thursday, January 10, 2008, in accordance with the Show Schedule.

  1. An exhibitor’s entry will consist of three (3) pullets per pen.

MEAT GOAT DIVISION RULES

In addition to the General Show and Sales Rules, these specific rules also apply to the Meat Goat Division.

All Goat entries will be validated on Saturday, October 13, 2007.

All Goats shall be delivered to the Show Site and weighed-in on Thursday, January 10, 2008, in accordance with the Show Schedule.

  1. Market Goats must weigh a minimum of 55 pounds at final weigh in. There will be no re-weigh of animals.

 

BREEDING GOAT RULES

  1. All breeding goats must be less than 2 years of age and be meat goats, boer goats, and percentage goats.
  2. NO DAIRY GOATS WILL BE ALLOWED TO SHOW.
  3. All breeding goats must have an official scrapie tag at validation October 13, 2007.
  4. All breeding (DOES) must be tagged on October 13, 2007.

 

GENERAL SALE RULES

THE SALE WILL BE FOR PREMIUM ONLY AND WILL BE SOLD BY THE HEAD OR PEN.

  1. Each exhibitor shall be allowed to sell only one (1) animal (market or breeding) in the General Sale, except as herein provided:
    1. Exhibitors with Overall Grand and/or Reserve Market or Breeding Champion(s) will be allowed to sell those animals plus one additional animal, but not to exceed the maximum of two (2) animals.
  2. The exhibitor has the responsibility to notify the Show Office within (30) minutes following the exhibition of their last animal of his intent regarding keeping the animal or selling to the floor. If no selection is made within the time requirement, the Show Officials will make the selection.
  3. All entries in all classes, participating in the sale will remain in place until after The Sale of Animals on Saturday, January 12, 2008. Any animal leaving the show facility is required to notify the Show office.
  4. The Sale Order will begin as follows:

 

All Overall Market Champions
All Overall Breeding Champions
All Overall Market Reserve Champions
All Overall Breeding Reserve Champions
Bred and Born
Breed Champions

All Champions and Bred and Born animals will sell alternating between cattle, hogs, sheep, rabbits, poultry and goats.

After all Champions and Bred and Born Champion animals have sold, the Sale will continue in the order of placing, by Divisions beginning with: sheep, rabbits, poultry, goats, cattle, and hogs.

  1. In case an exhibitor has more than one (1) animal in a class and does not want to sell the higher placing animal, they may sell the lower placing animal, but it must be sold according to its placing when judged.
  2. All animals must be sold once the bidding has begun.
  3. Checks from the sale of animals will be distributed at the Annual Buyer-Seller Awards Ceremony.
  4. All floor animals and all animals not scheduled to sell in the Sale will be loaded prior to the sale. Once designated for the floor it shall stay on the floor.
  5. The responsibility of the Stephens County Junior Livestock Show and Sale Committee for animals sold through the Sale terminates when the animals are delivered to the holding area designated by the Floor Buyer, and after the correct number of animals to be delivered have been accounted for by authorized members of the Stephens County Junior Livestock Show and Sale Committee and accepted by representative of the buyer for all animals.
  6. Any entry sold in the regular order of the Sale may not be re-sold until such time as all animals have been sold. If it is the desire of the Seller and the Purchaser that an animal be re-sold then it may be done following the completion of the regular Sale of animals.
  7. Each exhibitor must sell his or her own animals. All exhibitors with animals scheduled to sell in the Sale are required to be attentive to the Sale Order in order to have their animal ready at the required time to sell. Any exhibitor who does not have their animals available will be passed over and will not be allowed to participate in the Sale.
  8. No exhibitor shall be allowed to place any special markings on animals following completion of the Show prior to the Sale. This is to include painting, spraying, clipping or otherwise altering the appearance of the animals.
  9. Three percent (3%) commission of the sale amount will be deducted from each Sale check with 2% of that amount to defray the cost of the show and 1% to go into the scholarship fund.

 

SHOWMANSHIP AWARDS RULES

Showmanship participants will be on a “Call Back” basis per species. There will be a separate showmanship judge for all SS classes.

Showmanship Awards will be presented in (5) categories in the 2008 Show. The selection of the Showmanship winners will be determined by a special Showmanship Class, which will be held immediately following the selection of the Champion animals in each Division in which awards are to be made. Each Showmanship participant must exhibit his/her won animal and which is entered in his/her name to participate in the Showmanship Award Class. Judges will give the Showmanship placing and reasons for such placing at the time of the selection of winners. The Showmanship Trophies will be awarded at the time of the selection of the winners and awarded in the following Divisions:

Guidelines for Showmanship Awards

 

  1. General Appearance of exhibitor in show ring.
  2. General Appearance of animal being exhibited in show ring.
  3. Ability of exhibitor to show their animal to the best advantage of the show ring.

Senior Showmanship Awards will be made in all five of the above noted categories to exhibitors who have reached their 14th birthday prior to January 1, 2008.

Junior Showmanship Awards will be made in all five of the above noted categories to exhibitors who have not reached their 14th birthday prior to January 1, 2008.

HERDSMAN AWARDS RULES

The George Blackburn Memorial Herdsman Awards may be presented in all six categories of the 2008 Show. The Awards will be announced and presented at the Annual Buyer-Seller Awards Ceremony. Herdsman Award recipients will be selected by the Herdsman Award Committee, which will be, composed of members of the Executive Committee of the 2008 Junior Livestock Show and Sale. Trophies may be presented in the following Divisions of the 2008 Show.

Cattle     Sheep     Swine     Rabbits     Poultry     Goats

Herdsman award recipients are not eligible for the Herdsman Awards in consecutive years for the same division unless moving from Jr. to Senior Divisions.

Any exhibitor desiring to participate in the Herdsman Awards Program must designate himself or herself as an applicant of the time of validation or by completing their intent to show form in their Division. An exhibitor must compete in the Show in the Division in which he desires to participate and must have completed all seven (7)-herdsman guidelines.

Judging Guidelines for Herdsman Awards

  1. General consideration – 35 points
    1. General appearance and behavior of the exhibitor during the entire show.
    2. General appearance and behavior of animal during the entire show.
    3. Sportsmanship of exhibitor during the entire show.
    4. Ability of exhibitor to make acquaintance with the Superintendent in the Exhibitor’s Division and to cooperate with the Superintendent.
  2. Degree of Feeding and Care of Animal and Project – 25 points
    1. Each exhibitor’s project will be visited and inspected by at least two of the Following during the time from validation or the filling out of intent to show Forms at the time of the 2008 Show: Chairman of the Herdsman Selection Committee (who is also the General Superintendent of the Show), The Assistant General Superintendent, The Superintendent of the Division, The County Extension Agent, The FFA Advisors, or their representative.
    2. The following items will be checked on the visits:
      • Flies
      • General health of animals in the project
      • Cleanliness of the facility.
        • Upkeep and repair of the facility.
        • Overall grooming.
        • Cleanliness of water and feed troughs.
  1. Completeness of the Record Book – 15 points.
  2. Interview – 25 points

    Qualified Herdsman Award Applicants will give a (3) minute presentation to the Herdsman Award Committee on a special date determined by the Herdsman Committee. Applicants may be asked questions from a specific list which will be provided by the Herdsmen Committee.
  3. Herdsman Award Categories:
    1. Senior Herdsman Awards may be made in all six categories of the 2008 Show to qualified exhibitors who enter the Herdsman award Competition and who have Reached their 14th birthday prior to January 1, 2008.
    2. Junior Herdsman Awards may be made in all six categories of the 2008 Show to Qualified exhibitors who enter the Herdsman Award Competition who have not Reached their 14th birthday prior to January 1, 2008.
  4. Herdsman Award Records Books

    Herdsman Award Applicant’s Project Record Form/Books are due by 5:00 PM, Friday, January 18, 2008 and are to be delivered to the applicant’s respective 4-H or FFA Advisor.

 

STEPHENS COUNTY BRED AND BORN AWARDS RULES

Special Classes for animals bred and born in Stephens County, Texas, will be held in the following divisions in the 2008 Stephens County Junior Livestock Show and Sale:

Market Steers     Market Hogs     Market Lambs     Market Rabbits     Meat Goats

In order to be eligible to participate in this class, exhibitors must have proof that their entry was bred and born in Stephens County, Texas. Judging in these Divisions for the Stephens County Bred and Born Awards will be done in accordance with the Show Schedule.

The following rules shall apply to exhibitors in this program:

  1. Exhibitor must have proof that the animal exhibited in this competition was bred and born in Stephens County, Texas
  2. Entries in each division will be selected as follows:
    1. The highest placing animal from each division of market animal or the Grand or Reserve Champion that was bred and born in Stephens County, Texas, will be eligible to show in these classes.
    2. Animals will be judged by the Show Judge of each of the market division; Sifting by the Judge at his or her discretion.
    3. Animals eligible for this award must be exhibited by the exhibitor under Whose name it is entered.
  3. Trophies or Plaques will be awarded to the exhibitor and to the breeder of the winning animal in each of the divisions. The awards to be presented at the time of selection, but with acknowledgment to be given during the Buyer-Seller Awards Ceremony.

Stephens County PEE WEES

A Special time is set aside for children who are not of 4-H age to show animals in the Stephens Co. Jr. Livestock Show.

General Show Rules

  1. Exhibitors are allowed to show sheep, hogs, or goats only.
  2. Only those animals validated for this show may be shown.
  3. All exhibitors will receive an exhibitor ribbon. Pee Wee Kids will not be able to sell the animals they have shown through the Premium Sale.
