Mr. Toliver and his students have recently gone Robotic. Pictures and details below: The walking robot is called Alpha-Rex. This robot uses a very complex set of 3 servo motors with many gears that work together to make it walk and swing its arms. The robot is activated using an ultrasonic sound sensor and uses a proximity sensor to stop the robot 17 inches from any solid object. This robot is very hard to build and requires tremendous attention to detail in its construction. The robot with the stinging tail is named Spike. This robot simulates a real scorpion and uses 3 servo motors. It was originally built using six legs, but the students modified it to propel itself on bulldozer type tracks. This robot uses an ultrasonic sound sensor to start it and a proximity sensor to sense a solid object and strike it with a stinging tail. A touch sensor is used to stop the robot’s program once the tail strikes. The other robot in the pictures is a robotic arm called Robo-Arm. It uses 2 servo motors to move the arm thru 3-axes, moving, for example, a ball from one stand to another in 180 degrees of motion using a rotary table and a set of claws to pick up the ball. This robot simulates a real industrial robot that would be used to load or unload parts from machines or palletize parts to prepare them for shipment. |
