Upcoming Events

In February we will be having a campus spelling bee. Each grade level will conduct a spelling bee during their English classes. The top two winners from each class will compete in the school wide spelling bee to be held on February 14th in the cafeteria.

We will also be conducting the Six Flags Six Hour Reading Program. This program consists of each student reading for a total of 360 minutes after school and on weekends. They have a form to fill out and be signed by parents. Students completing the reading program will receive one (1) free ticket to Six Flags. Forms must be turned in to homeroom teachers no later than February 26th. Late forms will not be accepted. Read on and ride the titan!!!!

The talent show for South Elementary will be held on February 28th at 7:00 in Bailey Auditorium. A sign up sheet is in the office. All talent must try out. A date for tryouts will be announced soon.

As we approach the seasons for changing weather, please make sure that your students are appropriately dressed and bring a jacket to school. Please listen to the radio and Abilene TV stations for announcements of school closings or late starts.

6th Grade Hearts Fundraiser

This year, the sixth grade is sponsoring “Heart Sales” for distribution on Valentine’s Day.  The hearts will read “My Heart Belongs To:______.”  Each heart will be 25 cents, and students can order as many as they would like for their friends, teachers, etc. in grade levels 4-6.  Orders will be accepted through Friday, February 8.  All proceeds will be used for field trip funding.

Character Building

he character word for this month is: FAIRNESS. The dictionary defines this word as free from bias, dishonesty, or injustice. This word has come into use several times and as we all begin to get a touch of that spring fever we need to remember that in all fairness, everybody might be a little bit more on edge while we get ready for TAKS testing with no time off until Spring Break. Please visit with your student to discuss what fairness means to you and your family and make sure you share examples that will help put things into perspective.

Baseball Signups—Little league will begin February 18th and go through March 7th. Tryouts will be March 8th. Signup at Jon’s Gun Shop on Walker street or with Deedra Boaz. For information cal 559-2846.
